Sunday brought us to brunch at the Old Country Buffet. It surely surprised me how good the food was. After brunch Abby had a sledding party with some girls at Mount Kato. Danielle wanted to go sledding so Michelle, Mark K , Sheryl and Mark went to the hill by Spring Lake Park. No one got hurt, but tired out, Oh yes.
Arrived at the house late afternoon. Grandma Shirleen had already made the dumplings (knoedel) by using prepared 32 oz. bread crumbs, one egg and a quarter cup flour. This resulted in 32 - 1 ½ inch dumplings. The cutlets were well browned in the pressure cooker then cooked in it; the meat was taken out and after the sauerkraut was drained then added to the browned and fatty residue and pressure cooked for a while. After cooking and the lid being off a finely grated potato was added to thicken along with a tablespoon of brown sugar. This was now ready to eat after a half pound of butter was melted to put on the dumpling after cutting them.
Then came Christmas present opening. The night before and through early morning snow fell about three inches, it decked out the trees behind the house again in white trimming. A graceful eagle flew the ridge just before eating.
Then we ate with Michelle’s Riesling wine as an accompaniment. The girls wondered what was for dessert after their fish sticks? Grandma said the chocolates on the table and the pineapple angel food cake left over from Friday night. The cake was attached by all. The evening was topped off by having Danielle go with Michelle and Mark to the Country Inn and Abby slept over with us.
